Saraband Health's Courses and Workshops for 2012

From 2012, a number of introductory courses will be available at various locations in Woodford 4514. These are aimed at people over the age of 16 years. Suggestions for courses are always welcome and will be programmed if Patrice or another teacher is available and qualified to teach it.

Classes may be cancelled if the minimum of 4 people are not enrolled by the end of the week prior to the course. There will be a maximum of 12 in the class, so please enrol early. Full refunds or credits to another course will be given if courses are cancelled. Receipts will be issued at the first class and prepayment is required for all enrolments.

There are no child-minding facilities. Apologies, but we can't accommodate small children during classes as they can distract other students.

Please bring a notepad and pen to each class. Some notes will be given out in some classes.

All courses below will be taught by Patrice Connelly, who has a Cert IV in TAA, and has taught a number of courses privately and in colleges in Sydney. If classes below are not at a convenient time, they will be repeated in future at different times. Most classes will follow school terms.

Before the end of 2011, details below may change. Many starting dates will be confirmed once bookings are finalised, but likely to be either the last week of January or the first week of February. It's possible some classes may also be shifted slightly, but the class content will remain the same.

Discounts for pensioners/unemployed: please note that you will need to show your card before or at the first class to get the concession rate.
A discount of $10 is available to anyone enrolling in two 8 week courses held in the one term.

TERM 1 2012

Basic nutrition
Duration: 8 weeks, Tuesday afternoons at 1.00 -2.30pm
starting late January/early Feb 2012
Cost: $85 ($75 pensioners/unemployed)
Location: Hall under the St Matthews' Op Shop, Archer St, Woodford

You are what you eat. A huge amount of disease in Western countries is directly related to what is and is not consumed. Knowing how to improve your diet could add years to your life, avoid nasty diseases like diabetes, strokes and much more. In this class, we'll learn about the macronutrients: proteins, carbs and fats. We'll sort the facts from the myths, and by the end of the course, you'll know what's on your plate, and what you should be eating.

Intro to Bach Flower Remedies
Duration: 8 weeks, Tuesday afternoons at 3.00 - 4.30pm
starting late January/early Feb 2012
Cost: $85 ($75 pensioners/unemployed)
Location: Hall under the St Matthews' Op Shop, Archer St, Woodford

There are 38 Bach Flower remedies, all of which work on the emotions. They were discovered by Dr Edward Bach, who was a radical and revolutionary doctor in the early 20th century. The very popular Rescue Remedy is a combination of 5 of the remedies. In this course we'll learn about all 38 remedies, how they are prepared, and the stock remedies will be available to order at a discount.

Healthy food for kids
Duration: 4 weeks, Monday afternoons at 1.00 - 2.30
starting late January/early Feb 2012
Cost $45 ($40 pensioners/unemployed)

How many parents struggle with their kids' diet? If this is you, you're not alone. There may not be a simple answer, but if you don't know much about nutrition, in this course you'll get an understanding of what nutrients are in what foods, some ways of disguising veg for the stubborn child, supplements which might compensate and we'll share recipes and strageties.

Planning your next pregnancy
Duration: 4 weeks, Monday afternoons at 1.00 - 2.30
starting March 2012 (when Healthy Food for kids finishes)
Cost $45 ($40 pensioners/unemployed)
Location: to be announced, but in Woodford

Pre-conception care is incredibly important. How much do you know about what nutrients you and your baby will need while brewing inside as well as after the birth? Studies have shown the use of certain probiotics before, during and after pregnancy can reduce the incidence of asthma/eczema by up to 80%. Give your first or next child the best chance yet by attending this class.

Introduction to Chakras
Duration: 8 weeks, Mondays at 3.00 - 4.30pm
Cost: $ $85 ($75 pensioners/unemployed)
Location: to be announced, but in Woodford

The chakras are windows into our inner selves. We'll study the 7 chakras, and their connections to our emotions, our health and what we can learn from them. No prior knowledge of chakras or energetic healing is necessary. Some course notes will be given out in class.

 

One Day Workshops
Stress Management
Duration: One day, 10am - 4pm
Day: TBA
Cost: $50 (bring your lunch)

Stress causes inflammation, serious disease and a lot of emotional pain. You know when you're stressed - usually you're unhappy, snappy and irritable and mean to be around. But what's it doing inside your body? Well, promoting heart disease, arthritis, dementia and lots more nasty things.

This workshop will look at the physical effects of stress on the body, the emotional toll it can take on people, including those around us, and find practical solutions to dealing with it.

If you're an employer with some stressed employees, this course can be tailored to your workplace, and delivered over 2 mornings or 2 afternoons. If more than half an hour's travel is involved, there is a surcharge for travel time.

 

Half Day Workshops to be held at Saraband Health in Stony Creek, 10Km west of Woodford 4514.
Study Skills Workshop
Duration: Half day, Saturday 28th January 2012 from 9am - 12.30
Cost: $22

A lot of people are nervous when they want to go back to college to study after a long absence. If you have taken this brave step, you may also be someone who wants to brush up on their study skills. This workshop is suitable for senior students entering their final year of high school.

Assignment Writing Workshop
Duration: Half day, Saturday 28th January 2012from 1.30 - 5pm
Cost: $22

If you're not confident of being able to write your assignments well, this workshop will help and it's suitable for senior students entering their final year of high school. We'll cover essay writing tips, the differences between writing for different types of assignments and more.

References and Bibliography Workshop
Duration: Half day, Saturday 4th February from 1.30 - 5pm
Cost: $22

What's the difference between referencing footnotes, endnotes and bibliographies? Why do you need to be able to write references correctly, and why do you do it differently in the arts from in the sciences? This half day workshop will teach you how, and it fits perfectly with the Study Skills and Assignment Writing workshops.
