Reiki

Reiki (pronounced Ray-Key) comes from the Japanese and means Universal Life Force Energy. The "ki" is the same as Chi or Qi in Chinese medicine - energy.

Reiki is a painless, non-invasive and completely safe method of energetic healing. Think of the Reiki practitioner as a tube that connects you to energy from the universe. When you have a Reiki treatment, the most common thing you feel from the practitioner's hands is heat, but you can also feel pulsing or tingling. Most practitioners put their hands directly onto the client, but Reiki can also be done with the hands just above. Reiki is great to de-stress too.

Reiki is always practised clothed. There is no need to undress. Reiki can go through clothing, plaster or bandages.

There are three levels of Reiki. In Reiki I, you learn the basics: how to do hands on for yourself or others. In Reiki II, symbols are taught and absent healing is introduced. You can send Reiki to any one or any thing in the world. The Reiki Master level introduces more symbols and how to attune others to Reiki.

It is important that anyone thinking of doing Reiki goes to someone who teaches the full training. While you can in theory be attuned in a short time, it is important to have the full background, training and understanding of what is going on. To become a professional, the correct training is important for recognition and to acquire medical indemnity insurance. There are a number of Reiki associations, and many are members of CARO.

Reiki can help virtually any ailment. All Reiki practitioners vow to work in the client's highest good. The intention is that energy will go to where it is needed. Many Reiki practitioners work very intuitively. Giving Reiki is about giving love and respect.

Patrice is available to give Reiki treatments. These last a minimum of an hour, and can be a full body treatment, or concentrate on a particular area if that is more appropriate.

For those who are sceptical about Reiki, there are a number of studies which you can find on PubMed. While not all have positive findings, many do show significant improvements in physical health, and much more research is needed. Patrice reviewed a number of these articles a few years ago, and you can find a selection of the reviews here.

Patrice says: "I love practising Reiki. It has been my constant companion for over 20 years, and my training has helped me through many situations as well as allowing me to assist others in their healing. Please try it soon."
